Canoe Slalom Categories

Rules for Canoe slalom by the IOC (International Olympic Committee). If the contestant’s paddle or body, boat contacted with the either pole of the gate, a time penalty of two seconds is added.

Canoe Slalom Rules

Olympic Canoe Slalom introduction

Whitewater Slalom is also called Canoe slalom since November 2008 is a spirited sport where they aspire is to find the way a kayak through or decked canoe a course of hanging gates on river fast-moving water in the best time possible.

There is also wild water a non-Olympic paddle sport. Whitewater slalom racing started in Europe in the 1940s by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) was shaped to administrate the sport. In 1949 the first World Championships were held in the Switzerland. The championships were held every odd-numbered year from 1949 to 1999 and since 2002 have been held annually in non-Summer Olympic years. From 1949 to 1963 Folding kayaks were used in the Canoe slalom and boats were made of fiberglass or nylon in the early 1960s. Boats were heavy frequently over 30 kilos. In the 1970s with the introduction of Kevlar and carbon fiber was used in the Canoe slalom. 
The widths of the boats were reduced by the International Canoe Federation and the boats were reduced in volume to pass the gates. Boats have become faster and much lighter. All World Championships were held in Europe from 1949 to 1977.
